Sir Isaac Newton
A primer (important initial information – yes, that is an example of assonance)
Three laws of Motion:
From: http://teachertech.rice.edu/Participants/louviere/Newton/newton.html
First Law --- An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
This law is often called “the law of inertia".
eg. there is a natural tendency of objects to keep on doing what they're doing
Second Law -- Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object).
Eg. heavier objects require more force to move the same distance as lighter objects
Third Law -- For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.
Eg. whenever an object pushes another object it gets pushed back in the opposite direction equally hard

Note: Student notes mistake in second law: ” I realize that I made a mistake with Newton's Second Law. I know that the ball should have been measured in kilograms rather than grams, and that it really should be 2000 m/s².”
Homework for Wednesday, May 7 - due: Thursday, May 8th

-
What characteristics could you learn from Sir Isaac Newton? Explain why?
4. In what way do you think Sir Isaac Newton showed a contribution to society (eg. Area of Interaction of Human Ingenuity)? (Use at least two-to-three clear examples in your paragraphed answer.)
