Writing/Reading

Finishing writing your scary story and record your practiced scary story.

In English notebook. Rough copy first draft needs to be complete.

Outline already given.

Each short story should have at least: 1 protagonist (hero) , 1 antagonist (anti-hero/villain), a clearly outlined setting, plot which includes a problem/conflict and solution, conclusion to tie up the story

Writing:

Haiku and Cinquain poetry assignment. I have left the outline in a folder when I was away on Thursday.

Haiku: topic about nature - the Climate Change conference begins in Copenhagen, Denmark on Dec. 8 Think green themes.

Starting today the reading log consists of the three Rs - retell, relate, reflect.
This was due to a request from students.

Each R should be one paragraph minimum.

retell - summary of what you have read

relate - making connections to you, your life or an experience you have had / seen/ told about

reflect - what you think about what you have read (did you agree, disagree, what is new etc.)

Math - continue with measurement concepts and conversion of units

Media - bitstrips (most are done), power point photos almost done

Drama - rubric for reading a radio play to be shared tomorrow. Practice both the Haunted Castle and the Taletown scripts (your parts). How can you make your part more interesting. Where would sound effects (called Foley) be effective. Do you have ideas about how you can make these sound effects?

Canadian student life blog topic: What is YOUR favourite setting?

A setting can be one of the elements of a story. Eg. one of the characteristics of a narrative (another name for story).

Setting refers to the time and place (location) in which a story occurs.
A setting of a story, poem, or play can be anchored to a specific time and place, such as on the Yukon Gold Rush in the 1800s, or it can be fictitious, such as a faraway kingdom or in outer space. Real or not, characters interact within the setting to show and tell a story.
