homework for April 18th

I was away yesterday. The behaviour of the class, as a whole, was unacceptable. Students spoke disrespectfully to adults in the class and generally would not listen. I spent time to get our class a computer period for research and environmental poster completion. The class refused to cooperate. A number of individual students also had physical contact incidents. Fighting, play fighting and rough-housing of any kind IS UNACCEPTABLE and makes the class an unsafe and unproductive learning environment.

We reviewed behavioural expectations again this morning.

The class, as a whole, worked well in core today.

Homework for tonight is light as MANY STUDENTS did NOT complete assigned homework from yesterday. Many students forced me to "kill trees" as I had to re-photocopy the "Reading Maps" assignment.

Homework: complete Math sheet 7 (crossword and types of triangles)
Math ** bring protractor set. Students have been asked to purchased protractor sets yet many still are coming to school without even a pencil. This is unacceptable.

L.A. / Math - Complete Reading Maps assignment. (if incomplete)

Travel brochure: bring purple folder (which contains outlines, checklists and green notebook) to school tomorrow.

- Itineray - (3-7 days) due Monday.
see an example of a detailed itenerary from http://www.gapadventures.com/tour/PIDnote: include: physical and cultural ratings
- paragraph (1) due Monday
explain how people who live in your main city adapt to their surroundings.
Answer: How does the environment (climate, precipitation) affect the way they live?

Physical grading (from GAP.com)

Each trip is given a Physical Rating, which indicates how much physical activity is required to participate in it. This rating helps you choose a trip that is suitable to your level of fitness and abilities, and one that you will enjoy taking part in. Physical activity on a G.A.P Adventures tour falls into the following categories. Rating of 1 - Getting around on your own, up and down hotel steps and carrying your own bag. Rating of 2 – Light walking and hiking that is suitable for most fitness levels. Rating of 3 – May include moderate hiking, biking, rafting, kayaking and other activities that require only an average/moderate level of fitness to enjoy. Rating of 4 – May include high altitude hiking of up to 8 hours per day or other activities that require a moderately high level of fitness. Rating of 5 - High altitude trekking suitable only for those with a higher level of fitness and endurance.

Please note: Many G.A.P Adventures trips include only one element that may increase the rating of the trip to a higher level. For instance, any trip that includes the Inca Trail hike in Peru is given a rating of 4, even though the physically active aspect of the adventure may only be a small part of the overall tour. In many cases, you may choose not to participate in these activities before or during the tour.
