A letter to students in room 201.

Monday, March 6, 2017

Dear Students of room 201 and their parents/guardians,

I wanted to send you a note to say hello and to introduce myself to you.  My name is Valia Reinsalu ( Ms R ).  I look forward to working with you as the teacher of room 201 after March break until the remainder of the year. I’m excited to support the discovery and achievement of this class.

I am joining you late in the year as I was on maternity leave.  What an exciting past year it has been for me and my husband Matt! Our identical twin daughters, Valayria and Maxima, were born last year.

As we work together, we will get to know each other well.  But first I’ll tell you a little about myself.  I have a wide variety of interests and enjoy learning new things. Academically, I have an honours Science degree in Biochemistry and Genetic Engineering from McMaster University.  Along with being a sports reporter, agate editor and classroom teacher, I have most recently been an assistive technology itinerant teacher with the Central Special Education Department.  I supported students and their teachers to incorporate technology in their special education classrooms across the TDSB from Kindergarten to high school.

I have a passion for travel, photography, technology and film.  I volunteer at the Toronto International Film Festival every fall and am a year-long volunteer at the Bloor Hot Docs cinema. Students, I’m sure you have interests and activities you do out of school hours.  I look forward to hearing about them.

Communication and partnership between home and school is important to me. I’ll post any announcements, assignments and other information on my blogger website http://classofmissreinsalu.blogspot.com on a regular basis (two-to-three times a week) so that home is aware of what is happening in school. For a non-tech update, I encourage students make daily use of their planner. Students, the planner is a great place to help you stay organized and to support on-going communication between home and school.

I have always found parents and guardians to be supportive in ensuring each student contributes to a positive classroom environment where everyone has an opportunity for maximum learning.  I’ll thank you in advance for your continued support in this area.  Please contact me at any time if you feel your child is having a challenge academically, socially, or emotionally.  Also, let me know if there are specific strategies that you have found helpful in the continued success of your child’s daily well-being and/or academic success.

Bye for now.  I look forward to meeting all of you.  Have a great March break!

Regards,

Ms R (Valia Reinsalu)
