Homework for Dec. 1

Report Cards went home today.

Please complete the student self-assessment form and page 3 tonight.

Bring back the forms in the signed envelope as well.

Interviews start tomorrow for me. There is no school on Friday.

To work on: Calendar Character education. (The link is a copy of the assignment.)

Finish scary story (type out rough copy) this week and especially the day you are not at school.

Other language: We are sharing the power point assignments tomorrow period 6.

You have to make sure the synonyms, antonyms, homonyms and prefix sheets are complete.

Math - Data management and purpose for graphs.
Tomorrow: What kind of graph is appropriate?

  1. We find examples of graph types (i.e., bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs) from newspapers, magazines or journals. On Thursday we will look at each of the graph examples and determine whether they are appropriate or whether the statistics would have been better presented with a different type of graph.

  2. What type of graph would you use to present the following? Explain your choice.

  1. the number of female students in each grade in your school
  2. the annual number of road fatalities (the road toll) in your province or territory over the last 30 years
  3. the speed (km/h) of the world's 20 fastest animals
  4. the total population of Canada, the provinces and territories

We will discuss as a class the different situations where a horizontal or a vertical bar graph would be most useful.

Also: How to create a proper survey question.

We will look at Statistics Canada "Canada at a Glance" information and determine how to ask useful and appropriate questions.
