Book in the Box outline

Book
in a box…..Novel study

Use a
container that is a rectangular prism for best results.
Some
containers could be cereal boxes, shoe boxes or small cardboard
boxes.

Front
of the box

Write
your name, the title of the novel and the author’s name on the
outside front part of your container.

Inside
your container
Part 1

Main
Setting

  • Where does your
    story take place?

  • Design, paint and
colour the inside of your container so that any viewer can tell what
the main setting of your book is.

Part
2

Artifacts
(Five)

Create
five artifacts that are important or key elements to your story.

For
each artifact attach a tag that describes in a sentence or two why
this artifact is important to your story.

Outside/
on your container

Part
3

Vocabulary
– attach on the outside of the left side of your container

Find 10
words or terms that you find new or interesting.

With
those words you can: 1) create a crossword

Or 2)
make a word search

(For
either choice you must type out a list of the 10 words, the sentences
as they were written in the book, page number you found the words.)

Part
4

Book
review –
attach on the outside right-hand side of your
container

Write a
paragraph summarizing the genre, main plotline of the book, along
with the main characters, WITHOUT giving away the ending of the
story.

Write a
second paragraph about the style of writing, the point of view first
person (I, me) or third person (he/she, they) and which reading
audience (who?) you would recommend this book to.

Part
5

Point
of view
– on the outside back of your container
Who's
point of view is this story written in? Based on what you have read,
how would the story have been more interesting from another
character’s point of view?

If you
could change the setting and time period of the story, what time and
setting would be another interesting choice to tell your novel’s
basic story?

Separate
from your container

Part
6

Design
a movie poster
.

Pick a
key scene to illustrate (think of your movie poster illustration to
be an alternate novel cover).

Who
would you cast as your director for your film?

Which
actor /actresses will play your lead characters? Be prepared to
explain why.

Part
7

Design
a soundtrack
for your novel as a film. Pick at least five songs
that you think would suit the mood of this story.
