Homework for the week of Dec. 7
Illustration - Universal Declaration of Human Rights (celebration of 60th year on Wednesday). Illustrate one important article / right from the 30 in the UDHR.
Holiday card - using Microsoft Publisher, start assembling photos, pictures, drawings you need in order to create your card. I have booked computer time on Friday first period.
Genre picture - very late and overdue
Novel - Wednesday pd 1 or Thursday pd 4 (depending on your class) we go to the library. Read each night for 30 minutes.
Math - we are continuing with fractions and percentages (percent ..fraction out of 100) and rounding off.

Icebox Sugar Cookies

Yields: 48 servings
INGREDIENTS:
225 g butter (no substitutes), softened
400 g sugar
2 eggs
5 ml vanilla extract 440 g all-purpose flour
5 g baking soda
3 g salt
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. On a lightly floured surface, shape dough into three 10-in. long rolls. Tightly wrap each roll in waxed paper. Chill for 1 hour or until firm.
2. Cut into 3/8-in. slices; place on greased baking sheets. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 375 degrees F
for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks.

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon white sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground clove
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 pinch salt
DIRECTIONS:
1. Stir together the molasses and butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it begins to boil. Remove from heat and set aside to cool until cool enough to handle. Stir together flour, baking powder, ginger, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, clove, cayenne pepper, black pepper, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl until thoroughly blended. Pour in the warm molasses mixture, and stir until a dough forms.
2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
3. Refrigerate until the dough firms, about 10 minutes. Form dough into balls, using about 2 tablespoons per cookie. Place onto a baking sheet, and flatten slightly.
4. Bake in preheated oven 8 minutes, then cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
