Microsoft Drawing Toolbar

Part 1:

Create a new document in word.


Save your document in your H: (home drive) as drawing tools (yourinitials)


Part 2:

Using the Drawing Toolbar


Go to View Toolbar Drawing on the top part of your new word document.

For the rest of the period, experiment using a variety of the tools of the drawing toolbar.


  1. Word Art Click on the Blue slanted capital A.

  2. Change the size.

  3. Change some of the view properties (colour).

Note: You can move and size the WordArt drawing object with the mouse just as you would with any other drawing object.

You can edit a selected WordArt object by clicking the WordArt command on the Format menu or by right-clicking the WordArt object and then clicking Format WordArt. (Shortcut is Alt + o)You may also double-click a WordArt object to redisplay the Edit WordArt Text dialog box.

Part 2.

You can choose your WordArt object once again, then click on the Shape button on the WordArt toolbar.

(It says Abc on the face of the icon.) A grid of 40 different shapes appears.




Part 3

Create a text box.


You can go to Insert Text book (from the pull down menu) or you can choose the box with A and writing (beside the eclipse).


Once you click on the icon, you can draw a box of any size.







Double click the text book to change its properties.



Note: If you change the line color to “no line” the box will disappear.


Any text that you type will seem to float in the air.

This is a great method to organize pieces of data on a page. Eg. text and photos that you would like to arrange.

You can also change the fill (experiment) what happens when you click “image”?


Part 4: Inserting photos into a word document


Do NOT copy and paste images.


To remind you how to save images.

First find an APPROPRIATE image on the internet.

Right click.

Choose “save picture as:”

Name your image.

Save to you 7 IT folder.


Now try drawing a text box and THEN inserting a picture into the text box.

The text box allows you the freedom to move the picture around.


Part 5: Experiment with a number of tools in the drawing toolbar.
