-- from Asia across the Berengia ice bridge along Alaska and then south
Vikings -- from Norway, Sweden, Denmark -- off the coast of Newfoundland, evidence is L'Anse aux Meadows 1000
English - John Cabot 1497 -- saw lots of fish (cod fish) around the waters of Newfoundland
--Grand Banks fishing
French - Jacques Cartier 1534 (first of three main voyages) St. Lawrence River valley
Acadia (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia) and Quebec
Samuel Champlain "Father of New France" 1604 established first settlement that has been continuously lived in Quebec city (Trois Riviers and Montreal also around this time)
