Basic review of people in North America

First Nations -- not sure when? possibly at the end of the Ice Age, when the ice sheet retreated
-- from Asia across the Berengia ice bridge along Alaska and then south

Vikings -- from Norway, Sweden, Denmark -- off the coast of Newfoundland, evidence is L'Anse aux Meadows 1000

English - John Cabot 1497 -- saw lots of fish (cod fish) around the waters of Newfoundland
--Grand Banks fishing

French - Jacques Cartier 1534 (first of three main voyages) St. Lawrence River valley
Acadia (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia) and Quebec

Samuel Champlain "Father of New France" 1604 established first settlement that has been continuously lived in Quebec city (Trois Riviers and Montreal also around this time)
