Happy Wednesday!
We managed to stay outside for DPA. NO rain yet...
In math, we reviewed how to try to solve patterns or rules in numbers...to figure out the next TERM (or number) in a sequence...
eg. 5, 9, 13, 17, 21....
each term goes up by 4 ... ( + 4)...think ...hmmm...groups of four ....the number was x4
but first term 1 x4 = 4, how do I get to 5? + 1
so try the rule x4+1 .......try second term... 2 x 4 +1 = 9 correct
try third term...3 x 4 + 1 = 13 correct...
now if you're asked what would the 40th term (or number be) just use the RULE!
40 x 4 + 1 = 161 ...The fourtieth (40th) term would be 161 :D)
Math homework = complete math package 10.1 + 10.2 for tomorrow.
L.A. homework = poetry book pg 10 is optional , complete 11 & 12 for tomorrow.
History/Geography - we will continue presentations
Note: two other groups were able to perform the M & M experiment.
Scientific method review:
observation (of a natural phenomenon)
create a testable question
make an educated guess (hypothesis)
set up and perform the experiment (write down materials and set up)
observations (before, during and after experiment)
results (record results - measure (quantitative) or observe (qualitative)
conclusion (explain the results)
application (what can you do with the results? any further questions that come up).
We also review independent, constant and dependent variables in an experiment....
Testable question?
How much sun will a tomato plant need to grow the most tomato fruits?
Hypothesis?
I think a tomato plant that gets partial sun will grow the most fruit.
independent variable - (what you change for each experiment eg. amount of light (time))
constant variable -- (same for each condition of experiment eg. tomato seedlings)
dependent variable-- (what you are measuring - results of experiment) eg. number of tomatos
Observe and record results
Interpret the results by making a conclusion.
