June 26

Hi. We had a good day of working on our self-portraits. (On Wednesday it will be the final day to work on self-portraits.) At the end of the day, most of us danced following choreographed moves of Just Dance 2.

We also finished watching Kid Nation episode 10 and did our media assignment orally by discussing some of the "characters" on the show.
We'll be viewing the finale by Thursday.

We have signed up to bring in treats for tomorrow afternoon's end of year celebration. I mentioned that electronics are permitted as long as they are appropriate for school and that no one is excluded during our gathering.

Tomorrow morning we will work on our debates (still four sections to go) and students have worked hard in preparation.

June 20, 2017

Super Swim meet is tomorrow!

Friday afternoon there's the grade 4/5 picnic and grade 6 dance.
Grade 6s were asked to give a list of songs to Mr. Butters for the dance. I've also asked students to give me a list of (clean) songs they might like to use to create a dance routine with next week.
We're also having a classroom celebration on Tuesday afternoon. So, we could listen to some music then. I've asked students to think about what they might like to bring to school on that afternoon.

Quick note: our snack program closes this Friday.

We started our great Canadian debate in room 201 today.

Students introduced each novel. Then we debated the theme/author's message in each book.
It was so competitive that there needs to be a tie-breaker between Camp X and Saving Houdini on Thursday along with the other topics (order is in the parentheses, based on a number cube roll).

All end of year work is due this includes:
Grade 5 Science Forces acting upon structures. Some students have completed but not yet submitted their work to me - on paper, in notebook, or as an electronic document, whichever format they choose.

Persuasive paragraphs Book study 2: It is clear that everyone has ideas and is engaged in preparing for the debate. The individual assignment should be handed in on paper, in notebook, or as an electronic document.

Kid Nation episode 5. I am surprisingly still waiting for some student submissions for this media assignment that was assigned at the end of May.
We still are finishing episode 10 and have a final writing assignment to do (in class).

June 19, 2017

We watched part of Kid Nation 10 today. Students will have a short writing assignment/character study to go along with this episode handed out to tomorrow.

Book Study 2 debates will take place tomorrow.

Most students started their self-portrait work (media of your choice) today. Many changed their minds today (from drawing or painting to paper mache). Students need to make a plan about how you they will design the rest of their features to depict themselves (eg. props, materials, etc). I do not have many materials in the class.

Math - students for the most part are able to complete the pre-algebra work finding unknowns.

Science grade 5s - Some students completed their independent assignment about the structure that can withstand a natural disaster Friday, when it was due.

I sent home a permission form for the grade 4/5 picnic today. It has information and needs to be signed before Friday. The grade 6s have their dance on Friday during that time.
