Homework Oct. 6 2010

We have until next Monday to practice script or story reading.
Drama - use of voice/emphasis, onomatoepia, setting mood
Oral communication - asking questions to clarify, working in cooperative groups,

Grade 7 - Scary stories have been chosen. Pick up and take home copy to practice reading out loud Friday (for the weekend).
We will continue working on The Way of the Winner"
concepts: physical vs. personality (psychological) characteristics of a person / hero / character
memoir / journal / diary vs. autobiography / biography ..what are the similarities? differences?

Big idea: What do heroes contribute to a community?


Ecosystem trip Thursday.

Grade 8 - Partners picked for Reader's Theatre "scary scripts"..remember age group is for audience not reading level necessarily.

How writer's use power of the written word? How reading out loud can create a powerful affect.

Math - grade 8s..important to do daily homework. All classes behind. Measurement, metric conversion of units, multiplication computation (also applied for area calculations)
grade 7s ..also important to do daily homework. Students are not taking work home.
concepts - different kinds of measurements / units of quantity
length (metre), capacity - liquid volume (litre), mass - grams
Estimating quantities.
