Reading log (every night 20 minutes with written input into green duotang)
Media - point of view (photographs and framing)
Here is the Point of View powerpoint 2 that we viewed.
Students had an opportunity to use the digital camera to practice skills using the zoom function, holding focus, changing settings as well as framing.
How do I communicate?
There are a number of ways to frame a photograph. Depending on how much of a person is in the frame or the angle/position of the camera, a photographer conveys different messages to the viewer.
Here is a photography web site for you to review the different types of pictures. (Try it at home if you can. But don't post your photo! Safety hazard.)

Reading response journal:
We read and discussed the article "The Legacy of Terry Fox"
Five questions due: Friday
We spoke about characteristics of a newspaper article:
Headline
Byline
Photograph
Photograph caption/cutline
Direct quotations - what exactly people in the article said
also indirect quotations - the writer's retelling of what people in the article said).
,,,,,,some articles have charts/graphs/other graphic elements like maps to help provide additional information.
(Our article was more of a narrative / story style.)
Usually news stories are written in the "reverse pyramid" style.
All of the 5Ws and H (who, what, when, where, why and how) at the top of the article.
Then the most important information at the top is followed by details, explanations, quotations (direct and indirect).
Math - students continues to work on 3x2 digit multiplication, understanding estimation of multiplication questions, and the steps of division.
Sorry for the late post, I had a rough draft sitting in the outbox yesterday...
In keeping with the theme of Our Actions Affect Everyone Around Us...and the inquiry question "How do I communicate?" here is an example of a young rapper, who shares his environmental opinions through his music. Little Peppi. Enjoy!
