Remember, when you speak or say a speech...think of your message (content), how and where you pause (punctuation), emphasis (annunciation), tone and emotion.
Sometimes it is as important how you say something as much as what you say.
Monday is Martin Luther King Day in North America...
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
"Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, but his birthday is now celebrated on the third Monday in January, also known as “Martin’s Day.”
In 2009, Martin’s Day falls on Monday, January 19. Although deemed an American holiday, and celebrated most widely in the United States, this day is marked by many around the world who wish to acknowledge the global significance and impact of Martin Luther King's work as a civil rights leader.
In his famous speech delivered on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC on August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. articulated his vision of a more just society. It included the following words:
“I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.I have a dream today…”
Schools will be celebrating the work of this great man through a variety of activities that help create a world in which all human beings are free and equal in dignity and in rights. - TDSB website
