Multiplying by powers of 10.










remember any number (before a decimal) is a whole number.
after the decimal (right) are parts of a whole.

123x 10012,300move the decimal 2 to the right

123x1123do not move the decimal
(like saying I'm making x groups of 123. The answer is bigger or the same as 123.)







123x 0.112.3move the decimal 1 to the left
123x0.011.23move the decimal 2 to the left
123x0.0010.123move the decimal 3 to the left
(like saying needs to make 123 into x number of groups)
123 x 0.1 make 123 into groups of 10 (x by 1/10 or one tenth)







Every whole number has a decimal to the right of it.
